Classics Pace Group Match Play

  • Eight on the Break 340 North Avenue Dunellen, NJ, 08812 United States (map)

This tournament will be a Classic Pace Match Play format consisting of group match play in groups of 4 players (and 3 players as well if the total number of players is not divisible by 4) on classic games (games that don’t have a DMD or LCD) only. Maximum of 24 players are allowed in the tournament. Cost to enter: $10.

The scoring system used will be 7-5-3-1. For 4-player groups, first place gets 7 points, second place gets 54 points, third place gets 3 points, and last place gets 1 point. For 3-player groups, first place gets 7 points, second place gets 4 points, and last place gets 1 point. When a two-player group comes into play, the scoring is 7 points to the winner and 1 point to the loser of the game. The MatchPlay software will handle the scoring for each player.

Every player will play 4 rounds initially after which point their point total will be compared to an initial pace amount, 16 points. Players who don’t have this amount of points after the initial 4 rounds are eliminated from the tournament. Starting with round 5, the pace value goes up by 6 points each round and players who haven’t at least kept up with the pace after a particular round will be eliminated from the tournament. Rounds will continue in this manner until there is one player left. This tournament will have no final.

For the first round, players will be randomly assigned to groups. For subsequent rounds, players will be paired using balanced pairing.

Any extra balls are to be plunged. Players are allowed to set up a lane skill shot if they want to before plunging their ball. Once the ball is plunged, the player is not allowed to flip and must let the ball drain on its own. Nudging is not allowed on the extra ball at all. Inadvertently playing an extra ball beyond plunging for a skill shot is an automatic DQ in the game (coming in last).

Players are responsible to check that it is their turn before they play their ball. Any player who plays out of turn will be disqualified from that game and take an automatic last in the game.

Top 4 players get a medal and the top 4-8 players (depending on the number of players participating) get a cash prize as well.
